History and Facilities

Our department was established in 2002 within the Faculty of Engineering. Our undergraduate program, which was opened in 100% Turkish, then moved to 30% English education. In our department, 30% of English education is continued at the undergraduate level. Since the first day of its establishment, our department, which has been continuously growing and developing, opened its master's degree in 2003 and its doctorate program in 2006.

Our department was established in 2002, and it became one of the leading computer engineering departments of our country with its academic publications and research projects in a short time. 2 full-time professors, 2 associate professors, 7 doctor lecturers, 4 doctor research assistants, and 13 research assistants continue education and training activities. In addition, academic staff from the industry are invited for educational activities every semester, and their knowledge and experience are transferred to our students.

Our department accepts 90 students each year at the undergraduate level and 25 students at the graduate level. The 2019-2020 academic year provides education to 85 graduate students, 608 in undergraduate, 59 in graduate, and 26 in doctoral programs.

In addition to education and training activities, our faculty members carry out R&D projects, organize national and international events, contribute to organized events, and conduct social responsibility projects. Our department takes place near the top in our country in terms of the number of publications per faculty member, the number of activities, the number of patents, and the number of projects.

Our students receive degrees every year in project competitions organized by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and other institutions in our country. Our department also lectures and conducts projects on current topics such as cybersecurity, big data analytics, data science, social media analysis. Activities are organized to increase our students' awareness about new technologies and increase their sensitivity to the country and environmental problems. The activities of communities that students have established to improve themselves, such as the Computer Engineering Community and the Cyber ​​Security Community, are supported.

Our department is the first department to offer courses in the field of information security in undergraduate and graduate programs in our country, and has been organizing an uninterrupted International Information Security and Cryptology conference for 10 years, and has pioneered the opening of programs such as Computer Science, Information Security, Forensic Informatics, Smart Grid.

Laboratories play an important role in the applied courses in the education program of our department. In our department, there are Microprocessors Laboratory, Cisco Laboratory, 2 Computer Education and Training Laboratories, Digital Design Laboratory, Cyber ​​Security and Big Data Analytics Laboratory, Wireless Systems and Big Data Laboratory, Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Biometric Laboratory, and Wireless Sensor Network Laboratory.

Our department contributes to the training of lecturers needed in our country. Within the Academic Training Program (ÖYP) scope, many research assistants come to our department for graduate education every year.

Our graduates are widely employed in the leading companies in our country's defense sector, in public institutions and organizations that carry out information processing activities, in companies that carry out R&D projects, or go to education abroad as academicians.
